My Smileys Button
I believe that variety is the spice of life. ![]()
This is yet another FORUM SMILEYS BUTTON I had from CB2 that can handle a ton of smileys, but has a relatively small footprint.
You'll note that you won't have to scroll, & scroll, & scroll if you have a large Smiley Collection.
I filled this one with smileys from a button in this forum...Hope that's ok?...This one only shows two(2)pages of Smileys, but I have had as many as 10 pages, with 48 Smileys per page ( 480 Smileys +/- ).
Name the pages as you wish to help you define it's contents.
Credit where credit is due, I always say.
I believe
Morat was the culprit that helped devise this dubious work of art! ![]()
I hope it comes in handy for someone here.
Re: My Smileys Button
OK, i'm done. Why are some buttons (images, the smileys) look like they've been smashed by a brick? Something is wrong with their sizing. As well as buttons.
Anyway, posting it if somebody wants it. Here(link) :

Re: My Smileys Button
....Now, to use other smileys, i just need to add urls, right?
Go into Edit button....the Smileys are all located in the HELP tab.
Highlighted below is the Smiley entry from the last smiley on page #1, line #5.
Duplicate the statement, & insert your smiley information where shown in your new duplicated statement.
NOTE: Be sure you don't have any little errors in your statement,
otherwise you will get an error, & your button will not load until fixed.
You can even create into a new line, add to an existing line, create a new page, replaced existing Smileys, etc. etc..
Just be aware your window dimensions will change accordingly
Re: My Smileys Button
Man that looks good! Let me know when you're done, i'll install it.
EDIT: Bobby, that was for LouC!
But your pic tutorial for dummies looks good too, thanks!

Re: My Smileys Button
Ok I have not lost a single photo on photobucket to date.... Is there a Way we can create a account there and add smilies as we go?

Re: My Smileys Button
Handy :)
Re: My Smileys Button
Yes, just as long as Photobucket doesn't go the way of ImageShack by making hosted animated gifs as part of a
PAID package account.
It could serve the purpose of having a 'Community Smiley Storage Center' that we could all draw from & contribute to.
Unless there's more to Photobucket than I know of---which is very little---Up-Loading does require knowing the Username & Password for the account, & security might then be a problem. The only way it could work I imagine, is if there were only one person that would administer the account, & we all would then zip our Smileys & send it to him/her so new smileys could be added.
The administrator would have to be a daily longtime regular willing to accept the responsibility.
Transients like myself couldn't be entrusted with this type of responsibility.
OR
We could ALL open an account of our own, & do as mrbunnylamakins did & post an access link to it in a central Smiley location.
Any opinions?
Re: My Smileys Button
Well at one point I did have over 2,000 smiles. I went to every site I could find and extracting them.
If it was not for space at the time I would of kept them.
Photobucket just went to unlimited picture hosting for general accounts. Why? too many people opening multiple accounts.
Seriously do we need to have every smiley under the sun here?
People worry about multiple user accounts. Since people can't act like adults most part, you get people deleting smileys they don't like, or think are stupid. Or you have those serious disturbed types one little think ticks them off and they will go in and delete all. One other issue is using smileys from other sites. From my experience many sites come and go. People run out of money to maintain a sight, or forget to renew their yearly URL site payment then other people snag it up and change things on it.
So far we have something like 57 smileys posted here. Maybe we need a page to ask Morat to add some more.
Re: My Smileys Button
That's why I use my own hosting site accounts, but I'm a FORUM PHREAK (dozens of regular sites daily as the mood moves me), & I find there will always be people who prefer to leach my hosted Smiley links, rather than take the time & create their own...I don't mind for the most part, but as time goes on some Smileys mysteriously break, not because the host suks the big weenie, but because the Smiley itself became so damn popular, the host cut it/them due to bandwidth over usage.
ImageShack WAS the head & shoulders best, but now animated smileys (gifs) can no longer be hosted on a free account. Thank my lucky stars, so far those that were hosted prior to the change still work...for how long...I dunno. Fingers crossed.
Now, as far as a LOCAL page to post/host/house all Smileys, I think it has the very good possibility of working just as long as bandwidth isn't a brick wall. It would be great if everyone would find a host of their own, but for those that don't/won't bandwidth needs to be on the high side---or better yet virtually non-existent.
As for hosting, personally I will always host on my own accounts because that's my prerogative & for reasons you alluded to, but I'd be more than happy to contribute all my borrowed Smileys---even some of my own minuscule creations (mostly clones that I customize via Easy GIF Animator) which isn't free, but I got a friend who borrowed it indefinitely for me.
Re: My Smileys Button
This is what i get when i click this button:
Re: My Smileys Button
I don't know why?
I just re-installed it on my computer (Windows7 Home Premium SP1+ FF4.01 CB 0.0.5.4 ) works fine, & I installed it on an identical pristine Back-Up computer---same configuration---Works perfectly.
I used to use CB2 on FF3.0 & this button worked perfectly on that configuration too.
This button---without any modification whatsoever, except for the Smileys---works on my laptop with CB & FF4.02
I'm not a programmer/Coder....Perhaps you have a conflict with something on your computer. I suggest you delete it, reinstall, & try it again (before you modify it in any way)...Good Luck
Re: My Smileys Button
Yet another indication that your FF6 is faulty...
It's fine here in my FF5 and Win7
I suppose it *could* be that CB will need an update to work with FF6...? Or you have an extension clash that is NOT being reported in error console...?
Re: My Smileys Button
Re: My Smileys Button
@squeaky.....Your deductions may prove quite valid, unfortunately for me I don't have the facilities, nor the brilliant intuitions you have to verify those conditions.
Seriously I'm just up to FF4 as you know....geez, FF6....that's too far into the abyss for me (yet)...check with me in 2 years!

Re: My Smileys Button
Ohh...ok--gotcha,,,like passin' ships in the fog!

Yep
In case signals can neither be seen nor perfectly understood, no captain can do very wrong if he places his ship alongside the enemy. [Nelson]
Re: My Smileys Button
Well, yeah, i have Fx6b2 but i get that error for this button only (i have another 20 here). For the record, Fx6b works perfectly fine, it actually will be released in a few weeks, in August. Might want to get ready. Updating exts. will be a hassle for developers with this rapid release but of my 30+, only one had to go. It would've had to go anyway, was a test ride.
Bobby, are you the DreamRyder-used-to-be?
Re: My Smileys Button
Still waiting for the code of the button that you are using...?
A computer does *exactly* what you tell it to do...
Which may not be at all what you *thought* you told it to do!
Re: My Smileys Button
I deleted the button, it doesn't work as you can see.
The button is posted in the OP and i didn't change a thing there.
Re: My Smileys Button
Solution: encode the XUL variable.
Re: My Smileys Button
It works, thanks LouC!
But all i see is 'M' (my MoZine favicon)!
Re: My Smileys Button
LouC, i want to style that popup. Do you know how to get its url in DOMi?
Re: My Smileys Button
Here's my fav code:
[src*='forums.mozillazine.org']
{ padding-left: 16px !important; }
#urlbar [src*='forums.mozillazine.org'],
tab [src*='forums.mozillazine.org'],
[src*='forums.mozillazine.org']
{ width: 0 !important;
background: url() !important; }
Of course, if i comment [src*='forums.mozillazine.org'], the smileys show but i lose my fav.
Re: My Smileys Button
I'm using this GM script by Izzy and it works very well on TMP, MoZine and userstyles.org. Now, maybe somebody here can make it work on this forum as well? TIA!
Re: My Smileys Button
Re: My Smileys Button
Re: My Smileys Button
LouC, read it again.

I can't get the url from DOMi 'cause it's telling me the this:
Which means i can't use a namespace 'cause the 'long url' is one hell of a namespace, don't you think?
I already have a glassing style that makes all dialogs, prefs, etc. transparent but this one isn't, as you can see. I also know that it will be quite a challenge to glass 'cause of the images. I probably wouldn't be able to. So, forget it!
It works for you 'cause you don't have my fav style. Try it with my style and see how it works: http://userstyles.org/styles/44293/mozine-forum-favicon-silver
Re: My Smileys Button
Use the data:URI in @-moz-document url(data:URI), not in the namespace.
@namespace url(http://www.mozilla.org/keymaster/gatekeeper/there.is.only.xul); @-moz-document url(data:application/vnd.mozilla.xul+xml;yadda-yadda) { /* your styles */ }That's because your user style is a global style (no @-moz-document) that will affect all windows (including this smiley window). I suggest to add
@-moz-document url(chrome://browser/content/browser.xul)if you want to change the MZF icon.@namespace url(http://www.mozilla.org/keymaster/gatekeeper/there.is.only.xul); @-moz-document url(chrome://browser/content/browser.xul) { [src*='forums.mozillazine.org'] { padding-left: 16px !important; } #urlbar [src*='forums.mozillazine.org'], tab [src*='forums.mozillazine.org'], [src*='forums.mozillazine.org'] { width: 0 !important; background: url(data:image/png;base64,yadda) center no-repeat !important; } }Re: My Smileys Button
Aha! that works, thanks!
What do you mean 'crazy customizations', Genius?! 'As usual' is a lack of knowledge, i learn as i go (or rather, sit). Most of my stuff works fine and looks great, IMO, of course,
Now, to use other smileys, i just need to add urls, right?
How about that script, can you make it work here?
Re: My Smileys Button
Which one? Too many scripts in this page
Re: My Smileys Button
OK, i need to know IDs for those white button-like boxes smileys sit in. What are they?
NM, i got it!
Re: My Smileys Button
This script:
Re: My Smileys Button
Oh, user script. I don't know, maybe next time, or let morat do it. I'm still updating my MZF Menu user script, trying to add menus in the bottom but it's hard to set the positions
